BYS Parents and Players,
Last weekend, we were
informed by Diamond Umpires that they would not be continuing to umpire our
games for 11/12 boys, 13/14 boys and 15/18 boys beyond Saturday, June 4th.
Unfortunate as this
circumstance was, we immediately had to react as a board to find umpires to
complete our season. After many hours, countless phone calls and the
efforts of the board, we did find a replacement - Suburban Umpires (SUA).
During our search, we
found that in comparison to other leagues throughout Northeast Ohio, the
average playing time by age group was 2 hours for 11/12 and 13/14
boys while 15/18 boys had 2.5 hours. In searching for umpires, this was a
determining factor for any umpiring association to consider taking over our
games. Doing research and needing umpires, we have agreed to match
these time frames that other city Rec programs have to obtain umpires and also
for the safety of our players.
This change impacts the 11/12, 13/14
and 15/18 Rec boys leagues only. It is important to note that while we are placing
time limits on these games, teams can complete games if they hustle on and
off the field, refrain from throwing balls around in the infield/outfield after
the first inning and be ready to start the next 1/2 inning. The
league already has time limits on the rest of the age groups in BYS.
The changes
in Umpires and Time Limits will be effective starting Sunday, June 5th.
We look forward
to watching the remainder of the season with you; watching your children
improve and enjoy the game of baseball and softball. We appreciate
your patience as the new association takes over the games for these
leagues.
Sincerely,
Dan Geyer
